Happy Deepavali greetings!

Sejati Cards© has launched its inaugural collection of fine Deepavali festive greeting cards!

Deepavali, or "festival of lights" is celebrated by Hindus worldwide to mark the triumph of good over evil in the seventh month of the Hindu calendar. This year in Singapore, Deepavali falls on the 26th October. Hindus mark this day by lighting oil lamps, and decorating the entrance of their homes with 'kolam', or floral designs on the ground to welcome blessings.

New shop. A new journey.

After almost 8 long years of being a work-at-home mother, it was time to search for a studio space. Not that working from home is not productive. In fact, most of my creative works were done and executed in my home office. Having a work space at home also meant I could spend time with my kids and still meet clients' deadlines. It was actually an ideal choice for a working mother who wanted more time with her family. And I had the most wonderful and memorable times with them, ever!

Mariessa is ever so self-motivated and takes care of her younger brother Johanns and baby sister Miea. And when all three are at play, you can expect fireworks! Well, they do get into arguments of course (which siblings don't?), but differences aside, my kids are pretty amazing and I am so very proud of them.

Of course I would also like to think that my working at home has been influential in their growth and development as confident and happy individuals. The times we spend talking, reading, drawing, playing, joking, laughing (in the midst of strict discipline) and doing many other things together are so special. And if I had the choice, I would give up my entire career just to steer and guide them through their life choices. Which I almost did.

And then I began to feel restless, frustrated and my mind wandered to equally satisfying adrenaline rushes of design deadlines, creative processes and simply doing my drawings and illustrations. I began to miss those 'design days', and yearned again for that dream to pursue a Masters education, and a chance to have a lucrative design career. And I know I'm not alone in feeling these emotions.

But at the end of the day, life is about making decisions. I had dreamt the impossible dream many years ago – of having my own design shop – and it has come true. And thus a new journey begins. Come over for a chat. You might like what you see!

Sejati Cards in the news

Happy New Year 2011!

Firstly, we would like to thank all our clients and fans for all their support. Our cards have been well received in Singapore, Malaysia and all the way to Sweden!

We pride ourselves on being passionate about good design, and being recognised for that. We are also equally committed in protecting our environment, so we print on mostly environmentally friendly papers which contribute to forest redevelopment. And because of this, we have decided to adopt 'Respect the earth' as our new tagline for 2011. We feel that design should not only look good, but feel good too, in creating harmony with nature and all her magnificent wonders.

We are also pleasantly excited that the new year kicked off with our wedding invitations being featured in the press! Check out the latest issue of Wedding & Lifestyle magazine (vol. 6, issue 1, 2011). Published by MegaXpress Communications, this publication features interesting ideas in a pretty neat layout, unlike other local wedding magazines which tend to clutter. It is also bilingual - in Malay and English, for a more discerning and sophisticated market. Besides our designs, they also feature cards from other outfits like Prints and Dreamweavers.

What's made us happy is that the cards featured from Sejati Cards – Batik Gold, Kerongsang Gold and Spring Time, which bear beautiful Asian motifs and patterns – are our clients' hot favourites. Kudos to our team!

Besides Asian designs, we also carry invitations with classic, floral and modern themes. See all our works at

Honeysuckle is the New Hot Hue

We ended last year with a sweet pink theme. Who knew this would turn into hot reddish pink? Ready for Honeysuckle? Announced by Pantone as the colour for 2011, Honeysuckle replaces cool, calming Turquoise of 2010. Used as an accent or mixed with other shades in the family - peach, pink, orange, red, this combination can be vibrant yet romantic. Honeysuckle is also the hue to set the tone for a more uplifting spirit, for courage and confidence, a fresh beginning. A wonderful start to your journey!
